Henry Pearce (The Game Chicken)

I am researching Henry Pearce who is featured on your website in quite a lot of detail. He is an ancestor of mine. Have you any more detail on him? Wife's name or any children he may have had. Any further information would be greatly appreciated.

Recommended Book about Pearce 'Boxiana'

sportswriter/journalist Pierce Egan (1772(?) - 1849)
sporting writer whose works were considered indispensable reading for English men-about-town in the early 19th century.

Egan made his reputation as a boxing reporter. His best-known work is Boxiana (1818–24), a racy but accurate account of the lives of famous pugilists. Egan also became an authority on other sports and developed a flair for sensational…

Henry Pearce's marriage was a disaster, his wife was' a shamless and abandoned woman, who embittered his life and ruined his home', according to Egan, who may have been prejudiced. Egan blamed this woman's ' infidelities' for Pearce's eventual fatal dependence on gin. By 1807 he was a drifter, ending up in Bristol with a new wife in tow.
