Greetings,

I was born in Charity Hospital and live here in New Orleans. My family ties to music are very deep. I'm related to New Orleans Jazz musicians by both birth and marriage. Long, long ago, my wife's Grand Father and Grand Mother ran the "Colored Waif's" Home here in New Orleans. Captain Joseph and Manuela "Duplessis" Jones took Louis Armstrong into their Waif's Home when the young Louie got into trouble for firing a weapon. It was the late "Manuela Duplessis Jones who donated the Louies trumpet that is shown on this website. While in the "Jones Home", the late Mr. Peter Davis was the band master who introduced Louie to music. I have the original documents processing Louis Armstrong into the Jones Home and other Louis Armstrong Memorabilia. By birth, I'm related to the late musician Walter "Shane" Kimble who played for many years with Fats Domino. I'm also related by marriage to the late great Eddie Bocage, better known as Eddie Bo as well.

I am a photographer and self proclaimed brass band historian in New Orleans. My desire is to help musicians to receive the exposure, credit and compensation that they deserve and are entitled to. It would be my pleasure to provide you with information, stories and images of the most recent crop of brass band musicians in New Orleans. They are an incredible group of musicians who are making priceless contributions to New Orleans but receiving almost nothing in return. It would be my pleasure to tell you all about our New Orleans Brass Bands. I look forward to you response.

John Robichaux was my G-G-G- Grandfather. I look forward to finding out more about him and the rest of my family. I've heard my Great grandmother speak very highly of him before she past away. I feel lucky to see him be recognized because I know there are others in the present and past that do not seem to get the recgnition they deserve.

I put my Uncle Walter Melrose's name in my search.

Please enter your comments?

Walter and Lester Melrose, owners of Melrose Publishing Co in Chicago, were my uncles. I haven't found one article, yet, mentioning their brother, my father, Frank Melrose. He was a blues and boogie pianist in the early years. He died a tragic death at the early age of 33, but before he passed he made a great impact on Jazz. He was considered one of the finest musicians of that era. His music can still be found on Amazon, etc. I have also found the CDs of his playing at Best Buy, Barnes and Nobles, etc. My Uncle Walter was credited with composing several songs that became famous,,,Did he really write them???? A question I ask myself frequently.

BOOK of Remembrances in Honor of my Maker On A Royal Telephone
.by Melanie Sue Lynch-Evans on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at 7:39am.

I was told that God isn't moved by my desperation, but by my desperation FOR HIM. I found this to be true. I was stuck in a rut asking Him for change and seeing nothing happen. I began wondering, "What is wrong with me, that He will not honor my prayers?" I was trying to get out of sin. Why couldn't he just microwave me a miracle? So, based off some scripture on fasting--I had had ENOUGH and decided I would do this for three whole days. I was determined to get God to move for me. I had a good attitude, I kept my mind on Him and tried praising him with the best of my singing during the day.

I wasn't accustomed to praying a lot though I had faith and was full of the Word. Tiphani Cave Clearman asked me to pray for her grandmother, that was in the hospital, with a possible broken collar bone. Tiphani was worried she was far from Jesus and just wanted prayer for her. I hesitantly agreed. I didn't know her, I didn't FEEL anything. I really didn't care. Just being real honest folks. BUT....I loved and cared for Tiphani. Because of her, I decided I would pray and honor her request. Now I know, this sounds terrible--but this is the state I was in. So, I prayed for Helen with the same earnest I would have prayed for Tiphani.

I went on about my day as usual working, working, working. Then as I was scrubbing carpet in the babies room and singing fragments of long ago praise songs that I could muster and remember, it occured to me so strangely and definitely that this Helen needed a song in her heart. She needed what I was feeling (JOY). So, I promptly with bubbles and yucky stuff on my hands--stopped in the middle of the job--to deglove and call Tiphani. She answered, and I don't even know if I said hello. I just matter- of -factly said, "Tiphani, Helen needs a song in her heart!" After saying it, I knew it was an abstract thought to shoot someone with as an introduction for a phone call. For a milli second, I thought, she is going to think I am a whacko. But, much to my delight, she was as enchanted about it as I was. "OH MY GOD, I cannot believe you just said that." She had an accepting tone in her voice. After her thoughts took their time to process to me, she said that her grandmother had just asked the granddaughters to please find an old song that she hadn't heard since like the 30's. We didn't have Youtube--so that would be a HUNT! It was called "Royal Telephone or Telephone to Jesus--something like that."

Tiphani was feeling challenged by the request and we were trying to figure where to find this old song--if we even could find it. God validated her request through me as a result of fasting and prayer.I got to be a chosen vessel of the KINGDOM OF GOD, WOW! WOW! and WOW!

Finally, we found it. Guess where it was? I had a CD with it on there the whole time we were looking for it. It was on a Burl Ives CD that I had bought but never listened to.I had had it for several years. It's amazing, isn't it? God showed me in an awesome way how prayer works for those you do not even know. I was bursting with joy to be able to wrap up the cd to be gifted to Helen. Be in love with your Maker. He is so worthy.
