http://www.slaterweb.co.uk/mormon/pafg08.htm

is John Strickland HOLMES married in 1873 to Margaret SLATER who was born 1843 to Thomas SLATER & Isabella BROCKBANK.

Their census information is that Margaret is age 37 in 1881 implying birth circa 1844.

Unfortunately the parents given for Isabella have to be wrong because Thomas SLATER & Isabella BROCKBANK had a second daughter called Margaret about 1859, which implies that their first daughter called Margaret had died by 1859.

Hello Terry, May I congratulate you on a wonderful site. I have dipped into your site for some years now, but am ashamed to say I have never opened the guest book before.
My great grandmother was Jane SLATER b 1840 in Ulverston Workhouse, she married Richard AIREY in 1860 and they moved to Hull sometime between 1871 and 1881. I have derived a lot of pleasure and knowledge from delving back from Jane\'s birth using your facts and comparing them with others with positive results. Many thanks Don Airey.

I am trying to find information about Cyrus Arthur Slater, born in Congleton England in 1859, and his bride Hannah Yearsley also from Congleton. They emigrated to Kansas City Missouri in the 1880s, were married in 1888. Also had two children, Cyrus Harry Slater, and Delaware Slater. Cyrus A. Slater died in 1941, Hannah in 1954. Both Delaware and Cyrus Harry Slater also passed away. Is anyone out there a child or grandchild of Cyrus Harry Slater or Delaware Slater?

From an Oregon biography about my GGGG Grandfather, John Berry Slater (1860- ), his paternal side of ancestors emigrated to America from Holland with Peter Stuyvesant in 1650 and the great-grandfather of our subject participated in the Revolutionary war. The mother's ancestors were of Welsh nationality and the first of the family to arrive in the new world settled in the Carolinas about the time of the Revolutionary war."

I want to trace back my history, as my Father Martin David Slater has had nothing to do with the family since his mothers death around 1986? Her name I am unsure of, but her husband was Albert Slater of St Budeaux, Plymouth who I believe passed away in the past couple of years. There were 7 children, of which my father was one. Julie, his sister died at an early age, and the only 2 children I believe she had were Michael and Mark?
I would be fascinated to find out about any relatives I have, and there whereabouts, or even just a bit of history in the family. I believe there are relatives still living in the York area of England.

Many thanks

A VERY lucky find as a result of searching for Deason sites

Comments:

James Slater (1734-1810) and Jane Bell (1738-1818) are my 5x g grandparents. My descent is through their daughter Mary (1761-1829), and I am overwhelmed, and extremely grateful for, the amount of data on offer, especially as they confirm that I haven't made more than a couple of errors in my research.

I THINK (stressed) I MAY have identified Thomas Slater's 3rd wife Mary Postlethwaite, whom he married in 1777 at Seathwaite. The marriage entry gives her residence as Bankhouse, Kirkby Ireleth. She is possibly the widow of Roger Postlethwaite who died February 1769. His burial record gives his residence as Bankhouse.

A Roger Postlethwaite married at KI 6 Jan 1754. If this marriage is relevant, then by an amazing coincidence, like Thomas' 2nd wife, Mary Postlethwaite was also born Mary Hall.

My grandfather was Oliver Thornwell Slater (1875-1943) Louisiana, son of
Oliver Preston Slater (1824-1888) Alabama, son of
Meredith Slater, of Slaterville, Virginia. I believe that our Slater forefather emigrated to The United States from England in the 1700's. There seems to be a trail of Slater men named "Oliver" that tracks back to England
