I joined C company (194th Avn Co) 229th AHB around 7 January 1966 as a fuel handler NCO. The fueler\'s were under Bn. S-4 for operational control. The fuel blivits were located south of the main gate with the 227th next to our site. During my tour Jan 66 - Dec 66 I was in charge of the forward Hot Refueling points during the various operations. Hello to all the pilots, crew chiefs and gunners that stopped at my gas station.

You assholes that keep signing my guestbook here with you posting things for sale, no more! You will never see another post from you people trying to sell hand bags, sun glasses, or talk about your bull shit stories or push your website address. Learn English for one thing and read what this guestbook is for! It\'s for members of the 229th Avn Bn and family members and anyone who is interested in our history. If you want to sell something, then build your own website and stay off my guestbook asshole. I know your getting paid by these companies to sign as many guestbooks as you can in one day, but not on this one anymore. I just deleted 34 of your post messages to my guestbook. Like I said, you will never see another one of your posts on this guestbook again and if I knew I could get my hands on you, your ass would be grass.

On behalf of the officers and men of \"North Flag\", company C, 229th Assault Bn, First Cavalry Div, I would like to expess out condolences on the loss of one our pilots, CW2 Larry Shemley. As Larry\'s former commander and flight leader, I can assure you that those of us who served with him, through some difficult times, truly appreciate his comradeship and contributions. Our mission was in every way a team effort and Larry was an integral part of our team. He exemplified the two attributes that we valued most, dependability and valor. The name of his aircraft was the \"Cav Jester\"................he was and always will be the Cav Jester

In \"A\" Co.with the 11th Air Assault Div. all through the Carolinas, then on to the Dominican Republic with Task Force \"ALFA\". When we returned to Ft. Benning, we only had a short time to load the company on the ship for Viet Nam as members of the 1st Cav. Div. Great experience working with Mr. George Parker and Capt Bill Barrett in the Maintenance Department, and of course our Commanding Officer, Medal of Honor recipient, Maj Bruce Crandall.

I have been fortunate to communicate with many of my wingmen including Gene Beyer who commented a little below here. He was the Boss for a while. My platoon leader Ed Grier, Ops: Lanny Julian, Bruce Holmberg, Paul Brophy DAT, fellow pilots in Laskey, Horish, Othmer, Gladys, Bracewell, Kilduff, Eaton, Hamburger, Griggs and our historian Hank Llewellyn...and CE Keith Bodine. We share a lot of memories and have to correct some of them. There is an old saying among helicopter pilots, \"only lie when it is the right thing to do or when it enhances the tale.\" Keep your tail clear and your rotor in the green.

Been a long time since I\'ve visited the site. Thanks for all that you do Johnny. Happy New Year to you all my brothers. For those that may not know, we lost a brother earlier this year when J.P. Jones passed away. JP was my gunner for 7 months before being assigned his own ship to crew. JP was a helluva gunner and lifelong friend. A lover of rock n\' roll, he named our 60s \"Janice\" as in Joplin and \"Gracie\" as in Grace Slick. Mine was Gracie and she belted out some sweet music, hardly ever jamming. His was Janice. She jammed all the time. One day, mysteriously Gracie started jamming and Janice was firing like butter. Now JP and I were great friends to the end but I always accused him of switching guns and even in some drunken stupors, he never admitted to doing so. OK my good friend, no worries...see you at the next LZ. Happy New Year all

I wanted to remember the two UH-1 aircraft crews at C company lost on the morning of 26 Sept.1970. We were heading from Bien Hoa to Fire Base Green and as normal our six ship formation was flying in a tight V formation. Yellow One radioed for everyone to do the daily aircraft performance checks (DEER cks). I\'m sure all AC\'s / Peter-Pilots & CC\'s remember these. When 68-15648 started their checks they quickly accelerated and veered right. Their main rotor hit 68-16123 (Yellow One) tail rotor which caused both ships to loose control and fall from 4,000 feet. All eight men were lost.
Aboard Aircraft 68-16123 were:
WO1 Robert Bauer (AC)
1LT Warren Lawson (Co-Pilot)
SP5 Douglas Woodland (CC)
SP4 Robert Painter Jr. (Door Gunner)

Aboard Aircraft 68-648 was:
WO1 Mark Holtom (AC)
CPT Francis Sullivan (Co-Pilot)
SGT Donald (Don) Hall Jr.(CC)
SP4Ernest Laidler (Door Gunner)

Ft Eustis 67N school made me into a UH-1 mechanic.
Big Don Hall showed me (A FNG) how to be a Slick Crew Chief in The Nam.
Lets take time to remember all the Great 229rs that didn\'t make it back home.
