My sister had a dog spirit around her house for a long time after my mother died. My mom's dog got so overprotective, that she would not let people into my mom's hospice room in the house to take care of her, and they had to have "Blondie" put down. When my sister got married and moved into her own house, she heard and felt the presence of a dog many times, and knew it was Blondie. They were close. I have not had one visit me, myself. But I definitely believe.
My brother has his opinion about his arrival in Heaven. First, he is sitting in a field leaning on a tree. Then, all of the dogs he has ever had come up over a hill, wagging tails, barking and run up to see him, very happy. Then following them are Jesus, my mom and other relatives who have passed on. I think, what a wonderful way to start eternity.
Actually, your start to eternity begins at your place of death. People come back to help you cross over. I have seen this with my own eyes. But I didn't realize they were "ghosts" until after they were gone. The man who died was 42 and his hospital room was full of people standing around talking amongst themselves. The only "people" in the room were his wife and sister. I was shocked at all the people in that room.
