Two news about Karita Mattila. I did not know that she is active on twitter! And there she has announced, that she has recently signed a contract to sing Isolde! All for now
Thanks for sharing the great news! Yesterday Karita sang Luonnotar by Sibelius + 2 other songs by Sibelius and 2 by Toivo Kuula at the Tampere Hall. She will sing the same tonight.
My goodness, this is fantastic news! We have been waiting so long for Isolde to join Karita's portrayals. If you ever hear when and where and with which conductor this will happen, please keep us all informed. Joyous Yule tide to both of you!
Yes, indeed this is good news!! In a recent interview in Aamulehti (newspaper in Tampere area) Karita said she will have 4 new roles next year, 2 of which have already been announced (Paris & New York). I wonder what the other 2 will be. Maybe Kundry already next year?
Didn't Karita already tackle Kundry for the first time in her career a year ago at the Turku Music Festival? She once talked about Minnie in Puccini's La Fanciulla del West and Judith in Bartok's Bluebeard Castle. Both roles great for her!
Yes, she sang Kundry in a concert version twice in Turku. I was just thinking of her doing it on stage...And yes, now I remember her talking about those 2 roles....Time will tell!
It just occurred to me that Karita has also mentioned that she'd sing Klytämnestra in Strauss' Elektra in the near future. Could this be one of the new roles next season?
I don't really believe in that Minnie anymore... even if I would have loved to experience it.
Klytàmnestra, Ortrud, Kabanisha (?) and even the old countess in Pique Dame come to mind.
And Kundry and Judith , of course.
Elina Makropoulos will happen at Covent Garden in 2020, I read.
It will be interesting whichever role she will take!! I could ask her about the roles next time I see her, but usually she can tell me the ones that are official information. But we'll see!
I also found this: https://www.verbierfestival.com/en/concert/lun-29-juillet-19h00/ Karita will sing Duparc, Brahms and Strauss at the Verbier Festival, Switzerland on 29th July 2019. If I understood correctly, her pianist will be Evgeny Kissin! At least Mr Kissin is performing with Leonidas Kavakos in the same concert. If that's the partnership for Karita's Lieder, it will be the Earth moving.
