heavy tempered glass

how do you drill a hole in tempered glass after it has been tempered???

Re: heavy tempered glass

You cannot, period. Don't try or it will explode.

Re: heavy tempered glass

We have had a lot of success with our tempered glass cutter we purchased from China. We bought that and a glass stretcher a few years back and it has saved us a ton of money when someone screws up.

PS. They aren't cheap.

Re: heavy tempered glass

Can be done if held under water

Re: heavy tempered glass

with scissors??

Re: heavy tempered glass

Lyle Hill, managing director of Keytech North America, says that you can’t drill a hole in a piece of glass after it has been tempered. It will immediately break once the drill penetrates the extreme outer surface of the glass. Holes must be drilled in a piece of (annealed) glass BEFORE the glass is tempered. Pls. contact Hill at 630-468-2848 or lhill@glass.com.

Thank you for writing, and have a happy holiday!

Re: heavy tempered glass

this thread is awesome

Re: heavy tempered glass

Tempered glass can be drilled cut and sanded. All you have to do is untemper it first.

Re: heavy tempered glass

The cost of untempering ( if someone is doing that) and retempering is probably more than the cost of a new lite of tempered!
