retirement

I'd like some info on Presidio. I passed through there around the spring of '99 in my RV and stayed in town in a campground. Basically an asphalt parking lot after getting stuck in sand somewhere south of Presidio, (I was lucky that there was a road crew nearby that pulled my out with a road grader). I decided to stay a few days and rest up and to catch up on laundry at the local laundremat
The area seemed to me, and I don't mean to offend anyone, that it has been somewhat left behind the rest of the country as far as growth, realestate booms, and the ever growing franchise developements, like Wallmart. I at the time found that to be appealing not and not a negative in any way.
My point is that as a retiree, how viable is it for me to buy a house in town. I haven't seen anything for sale in the listings. I'm of Spanish decent by way of Venezuela, Puerto Rico, and originally the family came from the Canary Islands.
I'm single and enjoy people. I like the Mexican culture, their music, architecture, and also love the Chihuahuan desert. I look forward to any reply, thankyou.
