I was wondering if any of you could tell me how to king fish??? I have fished off the pier a few times and would like to try king fishing when I come down in a few weeks. I can't seem to find any info. on tackle needed or rods needed. I noticed most of them were using two rods. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!!
Truthfully it is an expensive hobby....there are many people who sit out there for weeks and months and never catch a fish and others may catch three in one day.....
To actually king fish the way you see most out here ....(remember as with any fishing its what you are going to like and what you are going to like fishing with....)you would want a anchor rod (something 10'-12' with a large spinning reel or small convential reel)
a fighing rod (there again what you like the feel of) *have alot of guys using the 7ft penn slammer with a 4/0 or larger reel with 25 lb test or larger line....
then some kind of smaller rod usually a plugging or bottom fishing rod that you can use to catch your bait so that you can catch the king.
Most of the guys and gals here are helpful even if they are not chatty online....if you come out with a good attitude and the willingness to listen and learn most will teach and or guide you....
my best advice....invest heavily in a good sitting chair as you may spend a great deal of time waiting for that fish....
I will be glad to help you in any way i can.
peir witch is correct on the equip. When are you coming

Re: how to king fish
Thanks for the quick replies guys!! I have come up with a 7ft Penn Slammer rod and a 4/0 Penn reel for my fighting pole. Need to know what kind of anchor rod and reel I need and what size anchor. Can I get the rod holders and jigs down there at the pier?? We are coming down the night of the 14th so we can get up early and fish on the 15th of October. Thanks again!!
