Re: Welcome SCP Family

Hey Folks,

First of all, Thanks to the Surf City Pier Staff for a great website. It's always nice to see what's going on during the fishing season, and finding some of your old fishing buddies, that you haven't seen in a while. I hope this forum serves everyone well. And lets remember, the pier promotes a family type atmosphere, and the website should be treated with the same respect.

    Re: Welcome SCP Family

Glad to see technology can give us a constant view of SCP and and it's progress as the season develops.

really nice web site - keep up the good work

Rumor has it that Pier Dweller is on the scene and that means the first king is not far from being landed.

I predict it will be landed on the day after he leaves !!!

Hi all you pier loving people,
I have seen some nice cobia and sheephead pictures on this site but no kings. It's time we put kings on the board. Good Lord willing we will see you on 6-19-06. According to the weatherperson it's going to be nice this coming week. I'm looking forward to seeing old friends meeting new ones. It's nice to have a place to fish where people fish and don't fight. If you see David Pickard tell him I said he is still ugly. I'm looking for the first king, see ya.

    Re: Welcome SCP Family

GR8 website!! I have been going to TI for about 35 yrs..or so! I have love for the island that an "islander" would have. Plus...I LOVE TO FISH!! TI is my solitude and peace! My hubby is from Conn. (I wish he could have seen the island way back when....), and he does not "get" the fishing down here, but he is a GR8 student, and learning alot!!LOL! He loves the island now! We have made several day trips to fish (being only 60 miles away), but didn't really catch any "keepers"! We were married in Oct. 2005, on a little part of Surf City beach!, not far from Surf City Pier! We will be back for a full week this Oct, and plan on fishing off the pier! I've said for years, the fish get lock jaw, when I cross the bridge!! I love the site, and special thanks for webcam!!!

    Re: Welcome SCP Family

Hi Robin, Congrats on your wedding. You said in your post, "I LOVE TO FISH!! TI is my solitude and peace!" It sounds like you are the angler in your family. So I have to ask this question.... Did you plan an October wedding so you could celebrate your aniversary during the month of October, which just happens to be one of the best fishing months on TI??? Sounds kinda "fishy" to me!!! LOL Just thought I would ask....You also said "My hubby is from Conn.....he does not "get" the fishing down here" Robin, don't worry about your hubby, the first time he hooks into a 6 or 7 pound puppy drum or black drum down in the suds, he will be "hooked" for life. Don't think we have met, but I hope to see you on the pier. I will be there with my best catch, Donna sometimes known as BeachGal.
    Till next time...

Hi Johnny! And, you got it ! What better month than Oct, to be able to celebrate our anniversary, and drown some shrimp & worms!! . I learned to fish as a child because my family went to TI, and Yopps Marina (then at Sneeds Ferry), every weekend just for fishing. I guess you can say, it's in my blood!! LOL! I am looking forward to Ray catching his first big "keeper"!! He's already "hooked", but that big one will make a believer out of him! No, we haven't met, but I did email you about the boat you had. I actually prefer surf fishing, but Ray prefers the pier, so you can't ever tell. I keep a check on your blog to see what's happening there!! Even though I can't be there as often as i'd like, it's fun to know what is going on at TI!

    Hi Jumping JB,
I had a great time fishing with you this week it was hot but we made it. I wish we could have put a king on the board but it will happen. The boys had a good time fishing an playing in the surf. That is what it is all about any way, family fun. Surf City Pier is a place you can take family an not have to worry about drinking or people getting out of hand, if they do they are sent off the pier. The staff are great people and give good advice and sell a bunch of bull ha ha. I fished till 1130 Wed. with a 4" pinfish when something bit it's tail off I left. I hope to see everyone soon. Have a good time catch a king.

My dad's had me fishing on SCP since I was old enough to hold a fishing pole. There's no place I'd rather be when I'm at the beach and that's where I bring my kids. It's a clean environment and good family fun place (even if the fish aren't biting)!

This blog is awesome & a great way to check an up to the minute fishing report before heading down! Great job!!

Hi Sea Dog Enjoyed fishing with you & your kids. I fished Thurs & nothing but pin fish small shad maybe a 4inch blue but no king. My cart broke down so I'll have to wait a few days before going back out. Looks like some bad weather comming in Sun-Mon Tues anyway. I was the last one off Thursday night & still nothing. Anyway have a good day Jumping JB

The dredging has to have an affect on the fishing!! I know the tides change the island, but the dredging has a faster impact! The island has changed SO much in the past few years, because of all the storms! The storms take away the sand, and it has to be replenished from the ocean. But I don't have to tell YOU "islanders" that!! Let's just hope the fishies are confused by the change! And hopefully they will find their way back in OCT!! I miss the yester-years...... OH Well.......TI is the Ultimate!

Hi Jumping JB I hope to see everybody on 7-24 so get that cart fixed so we can go fishing. We have given them a chance to catch the first king but the haven't so it's time for us to put one on the board. I though Blake would have done it by now. I like to see sheephead picture's but I wont to see a picture of a king. When we break the ice I think we will see more fish. See You Soon, Mickey

No place better on NC's coast! Truth be told... SC's either! How's the fishing been this week? Haven't heard a report lately. We should start a blog here for that. Any ideas?

When are the pompano supposed to "run"?? I know we have caught them in late sept, early oct. Several years back, we pulled them in 2 at a time!! I enjoy catching all kinds of fish, but I never recall people saying much about pompano . That is my favorite fish, next to the pop-eye mullet!...which we know ain't gonna eat anything we throw out there, unless we get 'em with a net!!! We had hoped to make it to TI a few weekends ago.......but because of work, we didn't make it! We are planning again for next weekend......hopefully to fish....but to just get to TI for some refreshment!!...

    Email
    Re: Welcome SCP Family

Robin - a few Pompano are caught all summer long. As you experienced before the real "run" starts in early September as the waters to our north begin to cool off a bit. Usually it is strong through the fist part of October and tails off pretty quick once the water temps get below 70 degrees.

It such a tasty fish, people are as secretive about pompano as their are speckeled trout! Shhh...but don't tell anybody......

    Re: Welcome SCP Family

Thank You, Topsail Angler!, For your response! Late Sept or early Oct has always been a favorite time for me be at TI! I sure hope the pompano are hungry when we get there!! We hope to be at TI this coming weekend!! If not, we have a whole week there, the first week of Oct!! It will be our anniversary, Oct. 2 (we were married on TI on this day), PLUS we hope to catch lots of fishies!! Thanks again for the info.........(shuuu, I won't tell anyone the secret.....LMAO!
