With a month to go, it’s time to start dusting off your Fairy outfits or treat yourself to a new outfit for this year – you might win the Best Dressed Fairy award!!
Like last year, we will be meeting in the RSPB Yew Tree car park for the Fairy Run (drive past the shop and car park at the entrance to the RSPB, continue down the main RSPB drive, and parking in the car park on your left under the trees, before the main house) with the Junior race starting at 10am and the Senior race starting at 10.30am.
The RSPB gives us permission for the Fairy Run each year and they have asked that no dogs are brought on site, so please do not bring any dogs along to the Fairy Run or this will jeopardise gaining permission from the RSPB in the future for this event.
The Senior race is a handicap race with the slowest runner going off first and the fastest runner going off last, in order for runners to finish at the same time or very close together!! The handicap times are worked out by me, so there is no cheating. My 15th year doing the handicap times and I am getting better!! Seniors will be allocated with a number on the day to wear, in order to ensure your time is recorded accurately by the time keeper.
See the Fairy Run event page on the club website for details of the race rules to make sure you meet the criteria and a map of the course.
The Best Dressed Fairy is judged by all competing Fairies on the day. Each Fairy will be able to make one vote for who they believe is the best dressed Fairy, your ballot paper will be given to you on the day and a ballot box for you to place your vote in. Voting can be made at the RSPB or in the William Peel. The winner will be announced in the William Peel along with the results of the handicap run.
There will be a free buffet at the William Peel pub in Sandy (opposite St Swithun’s Church) for Fairies to feast on with their drink or two (which are not free).
If you would like to take part in the Fairy Run this year, please add your name to this forum thread in order for me to work out your handicap time – my decision is final. Remember you need to let me know by Thursday 21 December if you want to take part or you will be given a default time on the day – you have been warned!!
Please be at the RSPB Car Park for 10am to cheer on the Junior race, collect your number and ballot paper.
