Hollywood Crime Issues

Friends, A couple of Hollywood success stories..... First, we experienced a discernable uptick in burglary and theft from motor vehicles
(BTFMV) beginning in mid-April which were occurring in the general area north of Hollywood Boulevard and La Brea Av. The bulk of the crimes occurred in parking garages; the suspect was either smashing windows or using tools to pry locks and windows. Images of a suspect were captured by video camera during one crime. An aggressive and prolonged follow-up investigation by Hollywood detectives resulted in the identification and ultimate arrest of the suspect. Seven felony counts of BTFMV were
filed against the suspect; we believe the suspect committed in excess of 30 crimes in the three-week period. Investigative activities are continuing; the suspect remains in custody.

Secondly, two street robberies involving several male suspects occurred on Hollywood Blvd on April 28
during the late evening and early morning hours. During one crime, the victim was apparently struck on the head with the handle of a large knife.
A license number of the suspect's vehicle was obtained by a community member and provided to our personnel. The investigation by Hollywood
detectives determined that the four involved suspects were current members of the US military and were on weekend leave. One suspect previously
resided in the Los Angeles area and accompanied the three remaining suspects to Hollywood to show them the town. All four suspects are now identified; three are confined to base pending completion of our
investigation and the issuance of arrest warrants. The forth suspect is AWOL. It is likely that had this group of persons not been identified, they
would have returned to Hollywood to commit additional crimes and harm other community members. Thankfully, their luck ran out. Hollywood Police Captain, Clay Farrell
