The Arcade, Broadmead - Doors Open Day 12/09/09

On Doors Open Day (12th September) this year The Arcade, Broadmead
will be transported back in time to 1875, 50 years after it was opened.
We will have actors dressed in period costume playing characters from
the time, entertainers and, in two of the empty units, a 'museum'.

We are hoping to collect people's memories of The Arcade, how they see
it now and their hopes for its future, which will be shown alongside a
photographic display. The other part of the 'museum' will be a mock up
of a Victorian room.

We aim to open people's eyes to the beauty of The Arcade's
architecture, its history and related stories, whist offering visitors
an engaging, educational and fun experience.

Can you help?
I am collecting photographs of The Arcade throughout its life and interesting historical facts and stories - both about The Arcade and also of characters that would have been around in Bristol in 1875. If you would like to share information on these for the purpose of this fantastic event, please get in touch.

Would you like to get involved?
We would like to create an experience of a bustling Victorian arcade - and to do this we need you (and anyone else you think might be adventurous enough to get involved)! It would be great to get a 'critical mass' of Victorian ladies and gents to plunge The Arcade back in time. If this has captured your imagination and you have access to Victorian attire, please dress accordingly and turn up on the day! Otherwise, come along as you are and sample the delights of The Arcade in 1875.
