H W Hawker Haulage

Im wondering if somebody could help clear something up. My Husbands Father claims that his father and brother designed and owned the very first artic lorries, but had to sell up as they were in demand for the war. It was called H W Hawker Ltd, and was owned by Alfred Steven Hawker and Herbert W Hawker.

Any help, much appreciated
Kim

Re: H W Hawker Haulage

I can confirm that they did design and own the first articulated lorry...... The concept was born out of horse = cab unit and trailer = cart.

The compamy H W Hawker and Son was nationalised after the war by the then Labour government and became part of Central Bristol Group, British Road Services (BRS).
