Her Majesty's Olympic Caper

Brava, Liz! A bravura performance as the newest Bond Girl "parachuting" into the Olympic stadium from a helicoptor! What a mind-blower! TV commentators were all wondering how Danny Boyle had talked her into participating in that one! Of course, not all the action sequences were really HM the Q, but the whole thing was pieced together in such a way as to make it seem to viewers as if it were. Good for you, old girl! :-)

Going home.. by a helicopter. Didn't watch it yesterday - saw part of it on the news today. She's cool, 86-year old Q.

Re: Her Majesty's Olympic Caper

Reckon Her Majesty chose Frankie Goes to Hollywood's pean to masturbation, Relax?
(and accompanying t-shirt worn by the boy of the young couple featured).
Should've been I'd Love to Change the World and an Alvin t-shirt.

Re: Her Majesty's Olympic Caper

Yes, B, the Queen is cool. I've always liked her, and gotten a kick out of having been born on the very day she ascended the throne, but recently I've been realizing how very fond of her I've become. I think I'm worried about her getting older. I have so much British blood and family identity with Britain that she feels like MY queen, and she's supposed to be very distantly related, as I have no doubt commented a zillion times already, heh heh. ;-) She actually greatly resembles my late mom's elder sister, who died several years ago. Their late mother, my grandma (the one descended from 5th President James Monroe, and through him supposedly from Robert the Bruce, also an ancestor of the Queen) bore a resemblance to the Scottish-born Queen Mum in her youth. (My Danish came from my mom's dad.) I miss Mom, Grandma, and my auntie very much, so I'm glad the Queen is still with us. "Lilibet" may be merely excess baggage in the minds of those who think the monarchy should go, but hey, she didn't ask to have the throne thrust upon her at age not yet 26, and she accepted her royal fate with grace and aplomb. She's done well by the job, and reportedly takes it very seriously. For all Elizabeth's apparent primness about royal protocol, she is said to be sharp as a tack and possess a wicked wit. I think we've seen ample evidence of that by her consenting to yesterday's "Bond Girl" shenanigans at the Olympics, LOL!! I've read that she drives like a bat out of hell whenever she gets behind a car wheel-- a truly delightful image, but be careful, my very, very distant kinswoman!! And of course, she's been a lifelong passionate equestrienne. I suspect Her Majesty's not averse to kicking up her heels when she gets a chance, normally in private, but yesterday, after a fashion, in front of the world. :-) So... Goddess save the Queen! Go, Lizzz! As "mother of her country" to many on an archetypal level, she herself is a stand-in for "the Goddess". Princess Diana was also to a fantastic degree in a different way, and Duchess Kate is "getting there". It's not about Big Mama on a cloud, or "God" in drag. The thing about deities, as I see it, is that they're inside us and in Nature. They're mysterious and have enormous power. (Nothing whatever "unbalanced" in such views, BTW, Reg...you were twitting me a bit yesterday about being a priestess, you'll recall. Stranger claims than mine have been made in the name of religion, I'd say.) There have been many Sacrificial Solar King figures of worship in many cultures for eons, for example, not just Jesus, and his storyline closely mirrors their more ancient ones in numerous respects. We don't get a hotline to "heaven", I don't believe. This is it, folks. We don't get to cop out and put everything onto some magical, mythical "Someone Else"... WE have to save ourselves, each other, and Mother Earth, before it's too late. Which reminds me, Prince Charles may be a bit of an odd duck, but I'm glad he's a committed environmentalist (if one whose carbon footprint is not as small as it might be were he not the heir to the throne and flying about in helicopters hither and yon to his various princely gigs and whatnot). Prince Chuckles has said he's "absolutely determined to be the defender of Nature", bless his heart. Now, whew! Where'd all this fun and fancy come from? ;-) Just stream-of-consciousness musings on a summer day, I guess. :-)

Re: Her Majesty's Olympic Caper

No worries, Queen L. Queen E's mother lived to be 101, so she probably has many years left on the throne.

Re: Her Majesty's Olympic Caper

Borje - you're on here a lot. Ain't you got no farming to do?

Re: Her Majesty's Olympic Caper

Your fault, Reg - you have made this place the most entertaining and fun on the whole web. Luckily, the grass grows by itself..

Re: Her Majesty's Olympic Caper

Only 101?? I thought she was 103!! Well, a goodly stint on earth, either way! :-)

So it's a "grass" crop you're growing there, eh, B? Oho, I see...if ya catch my drift. ;-) And yeah, it's YOUR fault, Reg...this tragically hip magical hystery-mystery tour is getting addictive, despite a few feeble attempts on my part to go cold turkey. ;-) I've been on here a lot lately too, beating the heat and taking a much-needed break from family drama, in between intermittent gallivanting, novel-reading, book-plotting, movie-watching, sweater-knitting, cat-tending etc., etc., and engaging in numerous exciting household tasks. Being lazy today so far with my Diana-sized feet up, though...nursing a barometric pressure-induced headache and other annoying pains. Adventure, intrigue, and comic relief from the too, too tedious and tragic travails of mortal existence, sweep me away!!! :-)
