It seems to me Alvin plays anytime he wants to play, anywhere he wants to play, and anything he wants to play.
As someone once said...he's not running from anything or running for anything ....(Alvin really isn't...that guy turns out was running from and for)
It's called confidence and independence...both good...together...great.
Alvin is the definition of a class act....he leads by his own standards and doesn't seem to me as concerned about following anyone or their expectations.
I think....he's pretty well figured out what makes him happy and that does not involve anyone else...except maybe Evi.
Another example of why he is both a musical hero to me and personal example hero in this age of twitter,
celebrity, and phoniness. He gets it. He is the real deal...
It seems that is why I visit this board...to just get a glimpse of how a true artist and man behaves.
Ignaz, Ich lese, rede und verstehe Deutsch. Jeder der auf der Website über TYA liest, wird wohl verstehen das Alvin Lee teil der Geschicte der Band ist, jetzt aber nicht mehr dabei ist.
BS..I think what Ignaz was trying to point out that TYAN still uses dissapointing old tricks to promote there gigs.
I think it is a strategy that people might not read the whole text The just reasd the announcment: Ten Years After and click on the Utube clip of Alvin and hopefully buy tickets.
And than later find out that Alvin is not playing with the new settup.
Its all confusing .. It happend her in Norway as well when TYA was playing in Lillehammer 6 / 7 yeasrs ago people were calling me to tell that TYA with Alvin was playing in Norway. And aske if i would come too. I told them that is inpossible but they could not to there confusion, read anywhere in the promotion that Alvin was not playing with TYA anymoore. Yuck.
It would be FAIR to use a UTUBE clip with J.C covering songs for the TYAN promotion but not use such a great classic clip of Alvin who is not playing with them anymore..
Jeremy ...Me and Ignaz saw Alvin play for 2 years ago in Stuttgard germany July 17th at the Mercedis Benz arena. So he does play in Germany..We had a great time.
BTW Mercedes Benz does not use any pictures or video footage of Michael Shumacher driving a Ferrari in there Mercedes promotion eigther.
Hi Pieter, good to hear your mild voice! I don't agree with you, but the discussion will never end, so I think that whatever is said, noone will ever change their minds anyway. Happy summer to everybody here!

Thank You Pieter, well said. And thank you, Don B.,for your smart reply
*Teil* der Geschichte der Band, BS?? Unsinn! Alvin *ist* der Geschichte der Band. Es gibt kein TYA mehr ohne Alvin. Es gibt kein lebendiger Koerper mehr ohne Herz und Seele. Das solltest du ja wissen.
Hear! Hear!
Hey, what's not fair about our Iggi telling the truth, BS?? Excusing a very misleading *youtube* promotion by saying visitors to the *TYANot website* can tell it's Joe and not Alvin in the band is beyond lame. Do you really think everyone cross-checks everything they see on the web? Why do *you* suppose Travesty Years After is still being promoted with Alvin at Woodstock?? Come on, BS, you know the answer as well as I do. You just won't admit it. Ignaz should be able to post his bit on Alvin's website message board where he is of a like mind on this issue with most readers (I have no doubt). It's your apparent inability to respect the reasonableness and appropriateness of that by feeling compelled to take open exception to it on here yet again which could be seen by some as "stirring up trouble". Not that I myself am averse to a bit of controversy. ;-) The world would be dull as tombs if everyone thought and communicated alike!
I don't agree that Alvin Lee alone was TYA, far from it. However, as I stated before, arguing doesn't get us anywhere, so I'll stop here.
BS, when I wrote earlier in German that Alvin wasn't "part" of the history of TYA as you had described, that he *was* the history, I was of course engaging in a bit of rhetorical hyperbole for the sake of emphasising a point. Certainly I don't literally believe Alvin alone was TYA in the sense that the other three were just nothing and nobody. Ricochicoandleo were important to the sound. But they weren't and aren't *absolutely indispensable* to it-- not in the way Alvin was and is. You can't deduct the most obvious, recognizable, and dominant elements of TYA-- Alvin's voice and guitar, and his songwriting contributions or song interpretations-- and call what's left Ten Years After. Not unless you're trying to capitalize on past glory because you don't have any present glory, and aren't likely to have any glory in future, either. Come on, it's plain as day. As for whether "arguing" about this "gets" us "anywhere", I'd hate to think what the world of thoughts, ideas, and principles would be like if "getting somewhere" in the short run or immediate sense were always the primary consideration. Discussion is always worth it for me, in and of itself. It's what I've always called the Grand Old Art of Thought Provocation. Sometimes one is merely planting a seed in someone's mind of another way of looking at something. Any results that may follow don't grow tall and bear fruit in a day! ;-)
Deep Purple does not use Ritchie Blackmore for their promotion. Und ja Menschmeier, der kerl Alvin war doch in Stuttgart!
:-) :-) :-)
Laurie, wo hast Du Dein gutes Deutsch und Deine guten Argumente her?:-)
Danke, Iggi! ;-)
