Well, I could be (and probably am)in the minority here, but if Gary Moore does'nt want to tour the U.S. while Bush is in office, then I sure as hell don't want to see him anytime. Not everyone in the country voted for Bush. Why "punish" fans who did'nt by taking such an idoitic stand. Politics is one thing. Art is another. Blues (especially blues) is about expressing your feelings. NOW is the time to express yourself. Not when everything is going perfect and we've elected whomever Gary Moore sees fit to run our country. I've got a real problem with that. He can stay where ever he is for all I care.
But Rob, isn't it expressing your feelings to say that I have such strong issues with the leader of a country, that in protest I don't want to visit that country?
I guess, but where does that leave his fans who did'nt vote for Bush. Then the argument could be made that people should vote to keep Bush out of office. But it's not from lack of trying that he was'nt kept out of office in the last two elections. The only ones who this decision of Gary's affects is his fans. I'm sure Bush does'nt even have an idea who Gary Moore is (after all, he does'nt seem to have a clue about anything else). Even for fans who DID vote for Bush (stranger things have happened), I would'nt want someone telling me "If you don't vote for who I like, then I'm not going to play for you". I'm not a HUGE fan of Gary's (he's really good, I'll give credit where it's due...he just does'nt move me like some others), but I would be taking this same stand if it were Alvin or Clapton or any one of MY musical hero's refusing to tour because of whoever's in office. Come on Gary, play FOR THE PEOPLE, not the government. Hopefully in about a year and a half, this whole discussion will be moot anyway. I "might" even be able to understand his point of view if 90% of America had voted Bush into office, but it was'nt like that AT ALL. What better time to play to a climate that needs change than WHEN it needs change, NOT after the fact. Just my humble opinion.
THATS COOL ROB BUT MY IMPRESSION IS AS TONI SAID GARY IS EXPRESSING HIS FEELINGS THAT HE WOULD RATHER NOT BE IN OUR COUNTRY WITH SUCH A BAFOON RUNNING IT. LETS NOT PUNISH GARY FOR TAKING THAT STAND BECAUSE WERE ALL BEING PUNISHED BY THE DOUCHE BAG IN THE WHITE HOUSE
DO WE KNOW FOR SURE THAT GARY HAS EVEN TAKIN THAT POSITION. OH WELL I WILL GO WHEN EVER HE GETS HERE IF HE DOES,AND YOU SHOULD GO TO ROB I THINK IT WILL BE ONE OF THE BEST SHOWS YOU,VE SEEN I,AM SURE BUD
PEACE PAUL
It is sweet irony when a buffoon attempts to label another by spelling it "bafoon".
Please excuse me for this, but I honestly can't think of anything ruder than berating someone for how they spell.
I once worked for a doctor with an IQ in the stratosphere. This was a man who got his first college degree at age 16, went on to become a mechanical engineer who helped design the space capsules that sent astronauts back to earth, then became a nuclear engineer and designed nuclear power plants. Career three was to become a medical doctor - but while he was practicing medicine, he also went to law school and got a law degree - for no other reason than that he wanted to fully understand the implications of potential malpractice suits on the way doctors perform their jobs. Brilliant brilliant man - who couldn't spell worth a ****. Actually, people who study these things will tell you that often the brightest and most creative among us are the worst spellers - the thought being that spelling requires a discipline that these quick minds simply can't be bothered slowing down to learn.
Frankly, I think your comments would have more merit if they were about the topic. Whether or not Paul is a good speller has no bearing at all on his words.
hey toni
i just love it when u stick up for everyone....u are special

Hey, I was directed to the site (fantastic by the way) by a link I followed. I am a big Alvin Lee/TYA fan. I guess rudeness is relative. Calling Bush a "bafoon" is OK and the "creative speller" that used the word is OK too! Perhaps the poster is far too smart for me to understand but I sincerely doubt it. What's wrong with spellcheck? Excellent website.
We have spell check?
Dam, we could all be genius'........... or not according to Toni!!!
I think the idea of Gary Moore not touring in the US because of Bush is ridiculous if not down right childish. But hey, if that makes him feel vindicated or gives him some feeling of accomplishment that’s alright. It’s his/our loss. It’s not going to do anything to change or bring awareness to the political climate in this country. It’s a loose loose decision for himself and his fans. Now that’s assuming that he did actually make that statement. Its all here say as far as I’m concerned. I hope that Alvin wouldnt be that short sighted and NOT tour because of something like that.
Thanks for saying "if he really" made the statement because I'd hate for the guy to be crucified on the basis of something I read in a music forum. May not be true at all!
Lets hope he wouldnt be that foolish........
Glad I'm not the only one who feels that way CJ, but as you pointed out, for all we know it could all be hearsay.
