The "oh brother" was for the idiotic situation Ronnie's son was put in, not your comment. Sorry. And I don't want to come off as putting anyone in the armed forces down - truthfully, they do a job I never would or could, and I have a great deal of respect for each one of them. If we're ever in real danger, they're the ones that will save our collective asses. I just personally believe that our president put them in harm's way in the wrong place.

Tales like that really make you worry about what direction upholding law and order has gone..whatever country you live in. How must your son feel about the police now?

'Protect and Serve?'....just who exactly are they protecting and serving nowadays? The public? The law? Their masters?

The cops undermine their own credibility with some of the things the get up to in the name of law enforcement, and raising revenue from motorists by whatever means they have at their disposal is top of their list, no matter how hard they deny it.

Its also tempting never get involved as witness to a crime, because of the politics and bureaucracy, but who are the first people we call if we are in danger? The cops. Whether they will actually be of any use or not is an entirely different matter.

There have been a couple of minor instances when my knee-jerk reaction has been to lift the phone and dial 'plod', but when I've thought about it, it wasn't worth the hassle of waiting four hours for them to arrive, give a statement, then have the incident hanging over me for a year before it gets to court (if it ever does). Nah! My life is complicated enough.

What really concerns me the most is the Fact we don't face our problems or short commings,I like all of you in what ever we do, we make mistakes, thats OK! we are human, However when we make a mistake we should take the time to find out how and why the mistake was made and make the proper corrections so that mistake is less likly to happen again,we all do that in our jobs everyday, if you continue to make the same mistake over and over then your either just stupid ,or just don't care, which neather is very productive!!In my sons situation, After Govenor Barber of miss and Texas Govenor, and CNN and Any one Else My Wife could get in volved, THE ARMY ordered my son not to give any Statements to the press,or anyone else, if he did he would face a courtmarshall, So its not just Richard,Iam sure he is just a little fish, But hiding and sweeping things under the rug, Is that not what Russia is famous For???

He had a warrant for his arrest.
Police are required to arrest someone once a warrant is issued. As a city official (of a small town)I was in the court area when we had a nice lady come in to follow up on her warrant. She had no money on her and the judge wasn't in. We explained that if we looked up her information and found that she had a warrant then we'd have to arrest her. She then would need the judge to arrain her and set bond.
We suggested that before we looked up her information that she make certain the judge is in and she has enough money to make the bond that the judge sets. She politely said excuse me, never mind, and left.
This is not normal protocol in any city. We eplained the process to her before we verified her idenity, otherwise if we'd known (as in a traffic stop) we would leagally have no other options. That's why the call it a warrant for arrest (not warrant for discussion or to talk about it or to set a date). Those arrangements and amounts could be discovered by communicating with the judge, e-mail, phone messages, etc. or if desparate get a lawyer to help. Most juris
dictions just want to clear the warrant and collect whatever is owed. Whoever your son talked to should have explained that instead of verifying his idenity and calling the cops. It wasn't like most in which they get pulled over for a traffic ticket when the warrant is discovered (again-immediate go to jail do not pass go). A couple of lessons here, pay your tickets and if you don't and they go to warrant then make sure you have arrangements made for a quick arrainment and money to pay the bond when the judge sets it. I'm sorry it happened but he probably wasn't treated any differently than anyone else in his circumstances. The clerk should have wised him up when he came in with the request.
