Actually, some of my best old white-haired black bluesmen friends realy liked country music, IF (and this is a big if) it was well-done and soulful, - "caucasian blues" as they called it.
Yeah, most of the old Delta bluesmen said they grew up listening to The Grand Ole Opry. And if Hank Williams did'nt have the blues, nobody did. You can hear alot of blues influenced singing in George Jones and Merle Haggard(who is great in concert, and plays some really good blues/jazz lead guitar himself). I've read where Robert Johnson played tunes by Jimmy Rodgers(the "father" of country music). Most of Jimmy Rodger's tunes are as much blues as they are country anyway. That being said, I can't STAND todays "new country". It's just dtop 40 dance music with sung with a fake twang in their accent.
