While Alan and I are trying to ignore Heri and the ensuing arguments, I thought I'd ask if any of you have heard Matt Schofield? My husband turned me on to this young Brit and what I've heard to date has been impressive. I'm curious as to whether any of our U.K. friends have seen him perform.
I have'nt heard of him, but I'm always interested in anyone doing their part to keep the blues alive. Speaking of young talent, had anyone here ever heard of Noah Wotherspoon? For a while he was billed as "Noah and the Stratocats". He's from Dayton, Ohio, and is phenominal. I first saw him at the Lebanon Blues Fest a few years ago when he was only 17 or so, and was highly impressed. At first I was skeptical, because of the "Stevie Ray Clone" syndrome. I've never been able to get into Kenny Wayne Shepard or Johnny Lang, but this kid is great. Of course you can hear the Stevie Ray and Hendrix influence, but also alot of jazz, and British blues influence. He's played the Chicago Blues Fest for quite a few years now to be so young. Hubert Sumlin(Howlin' Wolf's guitarist) is on a couple of tunes on his latest album. The funny thing is, he just looks SO TINY to get a big sound. Check this out: http://www.noahwotherspoonband.com/ and click on the "photo's" link. He's also a really nice dude. I've met him a couple times. He showed me some of his guitars backstage at one of his gigs. I think he's gonna be huge.
