Re: Re: Quiet

Thanks to all of you. Mom was moved to a different hospital yesterday, as my sister and I were very unhappy with her care. In the midst of this terrible illness, we have learned too well the drawbacks of the current American medical system - mainly, that it exists so that insurance companies can make the largest possible profit and that patient care is secondary. Thank goodness I had experience as a patient advocate because we have been doing constant battle with clerks with minimal medical knowledge trying to deny basic services to a critically ill patient. Its frightening and I beg all of you to care enough to elect politicians (i.e. NOT Republicans) who want to deliver proper healthcare to all Americans. Greatest country in the world, my foot - we're second rate in all of the things that really matter. (But oh hey, our tax dollars do buy pretty bombs, don't they??)

As for my mom, we're still very touch and go, but she has made some very minimal improvements. As soon as she was moved to this new facility, they began to dialyze her to remove some of the toxins in her system, so we now have a little window of hope. Thank you all for being understanding and caring. I'm continuing to spend at least 12 hours a day with her (my sister is also an ex RN, so we split the time - even though we aren't actually allowed to "nurse" her, we can serve as aides and eyes and ears - it helps tremendously, as all hospitals these days are grossly understaffed).
