Some time ago, I was in seeing a signmaker who prints these big, vinyl adhesive stickers for the sides of trucks....you know the kinda thing, 'Audey Murphy & Son - Builders and Tea Drinkers - Distance no object, manky footprints over your best carpet a speciality, call now for free guesstimate'
Anyway, these printers scan your design and print those peel-off stickers ready for use. I just happened to ask him out of curiosity roughly how much it would be to do a one-off of the 'Alvin Lee' logo from the early 90's....no less than $20. The more colours there are the more expensive they become. That might give you some idea of the costs involved.
Pieter got a set done for is replica 'Big Red', I don't know how much it cost him, possibly a lot, but he's 'minted' anyway, and wouldn't miss the cash!
I think that over time, if someone wanted to explore getting a sizeable quantity done, maybe even sell them here on the Alvin Lee Official Website, I think they could be a part of Alvin Lee Fan Lore that could be affordable.
I have thought about the manner which the Gibson Custom layout was at GibsonCustom.com. They have all the decals in a row on the side of their description.
I was thinking of one sheet with them on it. If we could demonstrate a demand it is possible that we could also locate a professional supplier. Just a thought. Maybe even Gibson would think about manufacturing them and selling them....
Example: The Official Decal Set-Up For Alvin Lee's
"Big Red" ES-335 Woodstock Guitar by Gibson Guitar
Maybe even an additional decal of Alvin Lee's signature included, something like "Rock On, Alvin Lee"
A computer, scanner and a printer is all it takes. There are all kinds of paper/material to print on for sales on in computer stores - even such one can iron on t-shirts. Larger packages cost less per decal.
I helped some friends to create decals for their band a couple of years ago - we bought a 100 sheet pack of glossy A4 (our standard size) decal paper with 12 labels/decals on each. Didn't cost much (think it was something like 2 cents per decal) and the quality was perfect. Can do CD covers that way too. No need for expensive companies anymore..

Re: Re: Guitar Decals
I will look into it - as long as its okay with Alvin.
Ah, but Borje - who would do the actual work. I know it comes as a bit of a surprise, but I kind of do have a life. . But really, I'll see what can be done - I like Gerard's idea of seeing if we can enlist Gibson - again IF Alvin approves.
Price for decals: 1 dollar.
Price for creation and door-to-door delivery: only US $10,000 if you order before noon. (must cover our minimal costs for 1:st class air-plane tickets, limo rental and luxuary hotel stays, etc. And no, we only deliver in person, directly at the door ..
What I said was meant as a tip. Many already have the tools for making it, so it's just a matter of buying some nice decal paper/material to print on. I know it's a cash and trash soceity these days, but I'm an old goof who still believes in "Do it yourself".
