Low-e should be our priority

Every day we see another story in the paper that energy production and global warming are major and real problems. Investments in bio-fuel, wind power and solar panels are increasing. (I've done my part--a little--Along with my gas eating Chevy truck we own a Prius, which really does get 55-60 miles per gallon)

Back to Low-e...we in the glass industry have one of the greatest energy savings tools for our whole country. Low-e works...it cuts heating and air-conditioning costs with correct installation. Yet, everyday, we all sell jobs with regular float and no low-e. "It is what the customer wanted", or "It's too expensive", or "It requires a seperate vote of the board". All it takes is a little effort on our part to present options to our customers. Not every job will go low-e, but if every glazier across the country sells just two more jobs into low-e, this will have a major impact on future energy usage.

We are face-to-face with the customer at the magic decision time. Mention low-e, discuss, teach your customers. If you don't know eneough to feel comfortable selling low-e, ask your fabricator to teach you. Every fabricator of IG will do this...or they shouldn't be your fabricator. Go to the websites of any of the Floaters, they have downloadable charts and pictures that help you explain low-e to your customer.

Also, it doesn't hurt that you have increased your sale. Let's each try to sell just two extra jobs during the first quarter in low-e.
