Projectile Motion Problem

A toy car runs off the edge of a table that is 1.225 m high. If the car lands .400 m from the base of the table:
a.) how long did it take for the car to fall?
b.) how fast was the car going on the table?

Re: Projectile Motion Problem

A - .5s
B - .8m/s

1st Identify what you have/need. I solve for the Y component and then divided the distance from the table by time to get speed.

D = 1.225
Vi = 0
Vf = ?
T = ?
A = 9.8

D = Vi(t) + 1/2 a(t)^2
1.225 = 0 + 4.9(t)^2
/4.9 /4.9
.25 = t^2
^ ^
T = .5

X = .400m
/.5s
Speed Off Table = .8m/s
