Archetypes

I am having trouble understanding something at school. Archetypes are timeless and universal, what are some symbols or images today that would be considered an archetype? Would a ring, symbolizing completeness or unending be one? What about the yin yang symbolizing peace, would this work? Please help, any guidance would be great!

Re: Archetypes

A ring can be considered as an archetypal symbol since it is universal and is representative of the circle. The circle is an archetypal symbol because it is universal in its representation.

One of the important features of archetypes is they are not learned behaviour, but behaviour that is in some way innate, or unconsciously formulated or absorbed.
