dream overload!
Hi all, hope everyone well. I think i am experiencing a bit of dream overload at the moment! I have recently stepped up my intrest in my own dream meaning and symbology as i am studying this in my course at the moment. The trouble is that my unconscious seems to be responding by giving me dream after dream full of symbols that i am begining to realize are ALL meaningful. i feel that i dont have the capacity to explore every symbol, but i also dont want to miss out on discovering something important about myself. Can anyone else sympathize? Any suggested remedies would be much appreciated- edwina

Re: dream overload!
Hi Edwina,
hah, i'm laughing here while reading your post, but not laughing at you...a more sympathizing laugh. I recognize what you've written there.
It was after a very clear, strange dream that my interest in wanting to learn about dreams and their symbolism took off. But not only the interest took a flight, also i started to remember lots of dreams. Sometimes whole stories...so strange and special (to me) that i even started to write a story in which i use a lot of these dreams (hoping that the story will one day become a book...hmm).
I don't know how you could make yourself stop remembering so many dreams. Maybe you could try to say to yourself everytime you go to sleep that this time you don't want to remember any dream?
Or maybe you should leave the whole thinking about every dream aside...there were everything started by wanting to interpret your dreams, it maybe can also be stopped by simply not giving it any energy anymore.
But you also write you don't want to miss out on discovering something important about yourself...
well, that maks it very hard... Maybe try and sort out the dreams...only choose the ones which feels important to you. Or write all of them down in a book, but don't try to interpret them right away. Sometimes dreams are better understood while looked at after a while.
You can also try to let it come as it comes...there will come periods in which it seems like you've never dreamed before...and at these times you would wish you'd remember them...That's my experience anyway...
I think that by starting that course you've made an opening in yourself. Isn't it wunderful that one can even learn at night? I would say..just let it all happen...Maybe you can even ask, before getting to sleep, what you could do about this situation...maybe your dream will tell you the way...
Wishing you good luck with it...
Greets,

Re: dream overload!
Thanx for your reply Mask. I know there is no simple answer here but it was reasuring to hear from a kindred spirit! I think that my desire to work on my issues through my dreams, kinda set things in high gear for a while and maybe the lesson for me is learning how to balance my inner exploration with outward experiences ie. maybe my psyche put me into high gear so i would become overloaded and take a break - which i did! and now i feel much better about things in general. Aren't dreams just amazing!
That's a great idea with your book, kinda like an internal autobiography - fantastic! good luck

Re: dream overload!
Hi Edwina
You mentioned sympathy or a remedy - this might be a clue to how you have been viewing, or not viewing, the deeper parts of yourself until now.
Yes, all the symbols are meaningful, however it is not necessary to 'get it all,,,, right now'.
This is an arena of learning and growing.
Now you have experienced the vastness of this realm (resource) within you - do you think it is limited ? It is not.
Can it overwhelm you (any of us) ? Yes.
Does it overwhelm us ? Rarely.
If we learn to regard this part of ourselves with respect and trust, realising it it part of us, yet scary and vast, then it seems the psyche is there to aid us
All the best

Re: dream overload!
Thanx Justin, very wise and elequently put! My teacher asked me the most powerful question when i complained to him about dream overload, he asked me if i was doing anything about my dreams! I realised that apart from writting them down and "pondering" what they mean, i realy havent been doing much else with them. It's no wonder i keep having so many, i am asking for answers but not listening to the answers i am given! All theory and no practice! This insight has changed my relationship with my dreams, they are much more profound and actualy sacred, i believe. You are so right about the psyche being there to help us, its like it has been trying for so long i just havent understood the language or the importance of the message. Being able to post on this forum and communicating with others about this issue is, for me, like giving respect to this other part of myself that is so so so much more than who i am at this moment. Thankyou.
