Also, thanks for your hospatality !!! That's a great club you guys have. Everyone was very helpful to an old Novice like my self!!! I didn't know what to expect but it didn't long to find out!!! Once I got on the course, it was like being on a kart track!!! Very exciting and challenging. The course was set up per fect for a kart. Good turns and fast straights!!
You guys want to do something different with your karts without having to change the set-ups?? Try Auto Cross !!! It's a blast. Even though you are not racing bumper to bumper with your fellow karter, you are racing other karts/cars in your class for time. The challange is to have your set up right befor you get on the track !!! NO practice time. I was lucky enough to have it right the first time. Actually, I didn't change a thing on my kart !! THe only thing I did was adjust air pressure. I also ran the same gearing that I do at Darlington. You can get an idea of the gearing by walking the track before the event starts.
There we a few 4 cycle karts and a Yamaha there Sunday and they did great!!! The 4 cycle karts we dirt karts and the young racer had a blast!! So, any kart/engine combination will work. I think the biggest thing that impressed me was the atmosphere and closeness of the compeititiors. Everyone was very cordial and helpful.
Oh !! I can't forget this. THere was a local celerbity that came out to check out the scene. WOW, one of my HEROES....IN PERSON. I was so nervous but I held together to make my passes !!! JOE SPEED himself was there!!!! I couldn't believe it !!! Well, that made my day. In case you are wandering what Matt made reference to about "FTD" , that means Fastest Time of Day. !!!! Yep, I beat the cars too. Yea, my head swelled some but I'm back to normal now.
