I know they are pretty rare. I have one but I think I'm going to save it as a spare instead of the factory spare that doesn't work. Once I posted a question on this and found several people that had them so they maybe rare but they are out there. My first car was a 70. woody |

Speaking of rims... Anyone know what the largest size tire is that will fit w/o rubbing? My car came with some kind of steel (factory) 15's and they rub with any wieght in the car. |

It's really not the rim size (13, 14, 15, 16 inch, etc.) but the outside diameter of the tire mounted on that rim. Other considerations are the offset that the rim may have and tire width. If a car had 14 inch rims and then goes to 15 inch rims, it's a really good idea before buying the tires for the 15 inch rims to determine the outside diameter of the old 14 inch tires. Then try to get the same outside diameter for the 15 inch ones. Of course, if the tires are much wider they still may rub and if the rim offset changes it could direct the tire edge toward fenders. When I buy tires and the sales person acts like they can't look up tire outside diameter, I ask him to get someone who can. This not only affects wheel clearance but speedometer accuracy. |
