i have 195/70/R14 on the front, and 215/70/R14 on the back and would not want to go any bigger. I had a couple hundred pounds of stuff in the back and the back tires would rub on the free way when i hit big bumps. Oh and i have Magnum 500 wheels that are an inch wider than stock, so these tires would actually be a little taller on the stock wheels. But if you have the stock AMC ralley wheels on your car then they are the same width as my magnums if i'm not mistaken. |

I've got almost the same....215/70/14 on the back and have had no problem. I have 205/70/14 on the front and I get an occasional rub if I turn into my (uphill) driveway at just the right angle. So I think 195's on the front would be a better choice. btw, this is on a AMC turbocast II mag wheels. Pat |

When you say biggest you mean 60 series or 75 series for the height? The largest 60 series I ran was 7" rims was 245-60x 14 or 6" was 235-60x14 FRONT!! and on the rear 10" rims.. 295-50x15 |

a 75 has a taller side wall than a 60 series. Here's an example. 215/70/R14. The 215 means the tread is 215 millimeters wide. the 70 means the side wall is 70% of the tread width. which means the side wall of this tire is 150.5 millemeters tall. (215*.7=150.5) IF this tire was a 60 series, the side wall would be 129mm tall. (215*.6=129) The R means radial and the 14 is the wheel diameter. So the 70 series is a bigger tire. Hope this helps to clear up any confusion. |

my 78 had 265/40-14's on 9 inch wheels on the rear with no rubbing, but not carrying loads either. I now have 225/50-16 on 7 inch wheels with no rubbing but handles a bit funny with these on front. These tires look huge but have 1/2 inch less height than 205/70-14 |

im running aftermarket eagle alloys kinda like a a crager but anyways im running a 215/50/15 front and a 245/50/15 rear and i have no problems with rub the only time its hit is when i had a load in the back of the car on worn shocks and bad leave springs and hit a large bump |
