Delco alternator swap kit from kennedy american
Hi guys. Any one here ever buy one of kennedys delco alternator swap kits. My motorola is dying and i want to swap to a delco (chevy style) alternator and was wondering if their kit was worth it for 50 bucks and what comes in it. Thanks |

I don't know anything about the AMC kit and how well it adapts to the engine, but in other applications most seem very pleased with them. |

I just used my stock alt bracket and modified it slightly and a 100 amp delco one wire alt fit nicely. Davis |

I ordered the kit and just recieved it. It is not worth it. the kit is made by canyon creek innovations. the part number for the alternator to use is no longer available. the total cost of a painted bracket, nut and bolt, plug and acouple wire ends should be about $10 to $15.the Directions are common sense. Something I lacked on this one. |

On the outdated alternator number, couldn't you just call Kennedy and ask what the new replacement alternator would be? Or are you saying we could just make the brackets ourselves and get a replacement alternator at the auto parts store? I wasn't clear on what exactly was the problem.

yes very simple modifation to the bracket. There are several alternators to fit depending on if you have air or other demanding accesories. I have a 258 with 3speed, radio, clock, rear window defrost, heater.I will go with a 55 amp or 65 amp alternator. I can post the directions if you want them. Dale |

I don't know if instructions would help me much. I have a 77 inline six with factory A/C. The alternator runs off of the A/C pulley. In other words, if the A/C belt breaks, no alternator. It's located under the A/C in a very difficult position. I believe I can rig up my own brackets if I do this conversion, but I sure am going to have to set aside a lot of time.

Not that hard to modify your bracket. your bracket is 2 pieces welded together.[ atleast mine is] the bracket needs to be widen to accept the delco alternator. if you take your bracket off and put the delco alternator on it the same as the motorola, you will see that one tab that holds the other end of the bolt has to be moved. cut it off and reweld and your are there. the alternator goes back in the same place.the delco wire plug you can get at NAPA. I am not sure how this site feels about it but I will post the instructions for all. Dale |

I purchased a 65amp alternator from advanced auto parts our local discount chain for $38.00 with a life time warranty and used my motorola for the core. Insructions;1. disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery. 2. disconect and remove motorola alternator. 3. remove original alternator blots and brakets. 4. disconect and remove voltage regulator. 5. Install supplied bracket[ modify your own] using the original mounting bolts. 6. mount alternator [7127-12] using the supplied 3/8" x 3" nut bolt and washer. the original adjusting bracket is used. INSTALLATION note: it may be necessary to remove the fan and pully to acess the adjuster bracket in order to loosen the 1/2" nut to move the adjuster bracket. 7.A.install plug on to alternator. the red wire disconected from the motorola alternator and the red wire from the provided harness are attached to the "batt" terminal of the delco alternator. 7.B. install plug onto alternator. the red wire disconected from the motorola alternator and the red wire Wire from the provided harness are attached to the "batt" terminal of the delco alternator. 7.C. the white wire is connected to the orange wire with tracer from the removed alternator regulator.[ this is for the indicator lightlight] |

7.D. the black and green wires are no longer used. tape the ends of both wires and tie back into original harness. note if the vehicle is equipped with an elecrical oil pressure guage, clearance is critical. you will need a 1" open end wrench to repostion the block to transmitter adapter. the wiring haeness they speak of is the 2 prong connector for a GM alternator NAPA has them or any parts store that has HELP parts in the red packages.

thanks Dale, did you use the original C-bracket from the motorola alt? If I understand right, you don't use the voltage reg with the delco? |

the Delco alternator has an internal regulator. #4. says to remove motorola regulator. If it's good and looks good, sell it on ebay. the bracket modifacation is simple. there are 2 tabs with holes in them one has to be cut off and rewelded very near the mounting bolt hole, the same width as the delco alternator. Thanks for the instructions Dale. The Delco alternator is an easy wire up due to having no need for an external regulator. I was curious about modifying the existing Motorola bracket and I believe you already covered that previously. I just wanted to be sure the pulleys line up since I pretty good at conversions like this and can fabricate most anything to get the Delco alternator in place. I was curious, what fan belt did you wind up using? |

I reused the original fan belt. From the looks of it,if you had a pully line up problem you could slot the bracket to line it up. it would be much. |
