New owner
I just acquired a '73 Gremlin, Base, 232 man. trans. I've restified other cars. I was a little concerned about finding parts. Now that I've read your posts, I'm more confident in getting whatever I'll need. |

Congrats on your new purchase. You will be happy with it!. Most of your mechanical parts are still readily available through rockauto.com, napa and others. Your hardest part to get reasonably is the grille. Hope yours is in good shape. Door panels, headliner, gas tank, and rear plastic pieces are the next hardest to find. You may want to change out the drum brakes for disc. You can use any later Gremlin, Hornet, Concord or Spirit setup to do this (no Pacer). I always suggest to check the condition of the rubber hose that connects the gas tank to the fill opening. They dry out and start to leak when you fill up the tank. If yours is bad, check out a tractor supply type of store for one as an auto parts store usually doesn't carry that wide of hose. The few remaining suppliers have some parts and you can find the rest on ebay now and then. |

Congratulations on your new purchase. You'll not find a more interesting car for the money. When looking for most parts, try your local auto parts store. I even found a thermostat housing for my inline six at our NAPA. You'd be surprised at what they can get for you. When you can't find something, ask here. If nobody actually knows where to find one new, someone else may have a spare they are willing to part with. Good luck!

You made a good choice! The Gremlin will give you the most Thumbs Up for the Buck and makes a great "point car" for friendly agruements to enlighten the Ford and GM guys. Luck for us is that AMC used the same basic engine forever and so parts are easy. Body/Trim are harder, but it just takes persistance (and a good internet connection, hahaha) Tom |
