Gremlin used by sniper?
Can you believe the news? Someone driving a Gremlin X in Virginia has been shooting, cars, people and a bank building. How far did they think they could get away in a Gremlin? This is very recognizable car, yet someone thought nothing of using it to commit public crimes. Hope it was no one here at the GremlinX.com forum!

This is very nearby to me. I just watched the news conference...evidently, they have the guy and the car in custody. Not only did he choose a Gremlin as his getaway car, it is an ORANGE Gremlin. When I first got a call to go check my garage, I thought my buddies weere just kidding around! (Mine's yellow) They showed the bank surveillance camera footage of the Gremlin during the press conference. Good news: they arrested the 19 yr old ******* who did this! |

Makes you wonder if that Gremlin was his or stolen? I sure wouldn't use a Gremlin to commit a crime in public if ANYTHING else was available! The good news is the Gremlin didn't seem to be damaged during all of this. That would compound the tragedy!

This just gets weirder.... It is utterly surreal that I just watched a piece on the 5PM news detailing "the most unlikely getaway car ever". This Gremlin has become a focal point of the investigation. Now, here's the detail that interests me: The state police have repeatedly said that the suspect owns a 1974 AMC Gremlin. The police have since recovered an abandoned Gremlin and the tv stations have found it in the impound lot. So they are showing this poor Gremlin all over the news. Interestingly, the car they are showing is a '77 X with the hotscotch plaid inerior in fairly rough shape. Clearly NOT a '74. What are the odds that they have the wrong Gremlin? Another really interesting detail noted in the report had a DMV statement that there are currently 700 Gremlins registered in Virginia. That's about 10 times more than I would have guessed. Also, I'm really sorry for the inadvertent use of inappropriate language in my first post. My feelings got ahead of my good judgement. Pat |

Here's the link to the local news if you want to see a picture of the Gremlin: http://www.nbc29.com/ The "Top Stories" section at the top of the page has the pics of the impunded Gremlin. |

Even better.... at the site I mentioned in my last post, you can watch the special report, "The Gremlin Connection" video, listed on the right side of the page. Lots of good Gremlin shots. I love the comments of the anchorwoman! |

What it looks like here is they have identified a 77 Gremlin as a 74 model. I guess we should be glad they didn't call it a Pacer. I checked out the guy's MySpace page and he doesn't have a single picture of the Gremlin nor does he mention it. He does have a Jeep though. Makes you wonder why anyone would do such a thing? They really couldn't have expected to get away with it scott free? But when you think about it, Ted Bundy used a VW Beetle and kidnapped a lot of women before he got caught. It was the car that got him caught, but he got away with it for a long time. |

These guys were complete IDIOTs... The Gremmie world does not need this kind of drama.. Its too bad there are people that will associate the AMC people with these dumbazzes. |

Those guys really were dumb for sure. Even the news reports point out that the Gremlin was not a good choice if they wanted to remain anonymous. But I doubt anyone would associate the Gremlin owners with these characters any more than you could associate VW Beetle owners with Ted Bundy. |

In the late 70s, in Oakland county (Just north of Detroit), there was a series of children murdered. One victim was seen talking to someone in a blue Gremlin. It took one week of owning a blue Gremlin before people started making comments to me about it. People who weren't even BORN then crack jokes about it. Sadly, this story just makes my situation worse. And what the heck is up with Virginia? Isnt that where those 2 guys were going around in a teal Caprice a few years back doing this exact same thing? |

Was that Virginia where that Caprice was modified so that could shoot out of the trunk? Another thing ...remember how everyone kept saying they saw a white Chevy Van during all of that and the cops were looking for a white Chevy Van? As it turned out, the Chevy Van was so common a vehicle and white such a popular color that chance caused a lot of people to imagine some Chevy Van was involved. For a while I thought the same thing was happening with the Gremlin here. I was hoping some poor sap with a Gremlin happened to be driving by when someone was shooting. Of course, now we know the saps in the Gremlin were doing the shooting.

This case was much different from the sniper case of a few years ago. First, the term "sniper" may not be the best characterization. This turned out to be just a couple kids with a .22 taking potshots at random targets....buildings, empty trucks....and a few moving vehicles! Nobody was killed and the police won't confirm that the injuries that were sustained were even from the actual bullets or simply injuries from the frightening experience of swerving off the road. The Muhammed/Malvo case was much more sinister and deadly in nature and intent. |
