1978 Concord AMX
I am not sure if this is the rite place to post this. I just found a 1978 Concord AMX 304 car. The engine and tranny are gone but the rest of the car is untouched. Are these cars worth anything or are the parts woth anything? It has a tach dash with sport stiering wheel, louvered back window, bucket seats and so on. I was told that it has a posi under it and I thought of robbing it for my gremlin along with the disc brakes. Does any one know if the amx has the same floors and wheel base as a gremlin? |

John It's all about love!! The concord is a hornet wheel base car. It depends on condition, like I said It's all about love. The rear should fit your gremlin and the disc brakes will too. Sport steering wheel will fit but check for sure if it's the correct style for your gremlin. the car could be a treasure for parts to restore or up grade other cars. Dale |

John, It is a rare car and should be restored if not completely rotted to the ground. Where are you from? I know alot of folks that would like to restore such a car. That kind of car should only be parted out if it truely is beyond repair... like the quarters, rockers, floors, and frame rotted out. Davis |

I live in North east Ohio. The car is not in to bad of shape. It has been sitting out in the elements for 4 or 5 years but was covered for a while. I was told that the engine was blown or almost that way and the guy had a local garage pull it and the tranny and was going to replace it with a 360 but the guy did not have the money to buy the 360 so the garage towed the car back to his house only 1/2 mile away and parked it in his drive. I talked to the son inlaw about the car and he told me that the garage still had the engine. I went to the garage and they said it had been scrapped 4 or 5 years ago so there is no numbers matching engine or tranny. I have not bought the car yet as the guy does not want to give it up but does not have the meens to restore it either but the son inlaw where it is parked wants it gone pronto so for the rite price I may end up with it. I would like to know what it is worth as it seems to still be in some what decent shape. I can see that it is going to need some quarter work but from what I can see the floors and frame look good.It is a black car with some kind of decall on the hood and trunk. There is an aluminum type bar that runs across the roof also. There is just so many things on the car that would improve my gremlin and that I could sell to make money on to put towards the build of my gremlin that it would be hard not to part it out but the car is very restorable also...so I am torn on which way to go....but I will end up with it along with a title. |

John, you have a car there that is much more collectable than an ordinary Gremlin. One recently sold on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/AMC-Concord-AMX-78-AMC-Concord-AMX_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ5357QQihZ017QQitemZ270218351764QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW for 1500. Granted it did run, but it sounded like it had a few issues too, let alone a weird zebra type stripes on the back. Usually they go for more than that. If only you lived closer to me, I would have happily traded you a V-8 crossmember, rear end, bucket seats, sway bar, tach, and a few more goodies for your gremlin to get my hands on that AMX, but there are too many miles between S.C and Ohio. If I were you I would pick this up, clean the title by titling it in your name, and then sell it on ebay. Also, in my opinion, numbers matching on a 6 does not really matter as most people would drop in an 8 anyway. |

This concord AMX was not a 6 cyl. it was a v-8 car. |

Go to the Planethouston Amx site and read up on this car. I think he said only 250 are known to survive. I've only seen 1 in person. |

I just picked up a 77 Hornet AMX for $300.00 needing engine and trans work. Now don't everybody start screaming at me but I might pull apart my 78 Gremlin for the new 360 and auto trans Gremlin is frightening at 75-80 MPH with that short wheelbase! |

If your Gremlin is scary at 80 or so.. something is bad wrong with it.. mine runs over 100 mph in the 1/8th(so far.. more to come) with stock suspension (bolt on Cal-Tracs)and brakes.. it is rock solid at speed.. MPK |

yeah i've had my Gremlin up to 90 on the freeway. No problems. I think you've got an out of balance driveshaft or wheel, somethings out of balance. Your Gremlin should be solid on the freeway, something's wrong. |

Sounds like someone should keep this AMX as is. Very rare and excellent car if all the parts stay on it. I agree, it would be a waste to cut this car up for parts for a Gremlin. I love my Gremlin but won't destroy another car for parts. Lets try to keep it together and sell to someone that can and will make it something again and THEN take the money and spend it on the Gremlin. One less AMC isn't a good option. woody |
