OBITUARY - Mr. Barbato

PATSY BARBATO, 70, NEPTUNE

Patsy Alfred Barbato, 70, of Neptune passed away on Tuesday, July 17, 2007, at home.

He was born in Port Reading. He graduated from the University of Louisville, where he played football and was a member of the 1959 Sun Bowl championship team. Later he received his master's degree in education administration from Trenton State. He worked as a physical education teacher for Colonia High School. Patsy was the head football coach of the Colonia Patriots and the athletic director before retiring in 1999. He was elected to the N.J. Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1999. After retirement he substituted for the Neptune Township school system. He was a member of NJEA and the Ocean Township Italian-American Club. He was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Neptune as well as St. Anthony of Padua Church in Port Reading. Patsy was a longtime member of the Port Reading Council of the Knights of Columbus.

Son of the late Alfred and Antoinette Barbato, he was also predeceased by his first wife, MaryJane Barbato, and his grandson, Ryan McCabe. He is survived by his loving wife, Wynne Barbato of Neptune; his son, Alfred Barbato of Phoenixville, Pa.; his daughter, Deborah Callaway and her husband, David, of Glendale, Ariz.; his daughter, Donna McCabe, and her husband, Scott, of Highland, N.Y.; his son, Patrick Barbato and his wife, Bethann, of Red Lion, Pa.; his son, Michael Barbato, and his wife, Ruthie, of St. Louis, Md.; his son, Todd Vitelli of Neptune; his daughter, Jamie Tuzeneu, and her husband, Robert, of Neptune; his sister, Patricia Martino, and her husband, Martin, of both Port Reading and Wanamassa; his grandchildren, Laura, Diana, Timothy, Kevin, David, Christopher, Kenny, Kristyn, Brianna, Michael, Patrick, Kaitlin, Anthony, Kyle, Kayleigh, Connor and Sadie Mae; his nephew, Dr. Martin Martino, his wife Jaime and their son Izzy of Allentown, Pa.; his niece, Joanne Shafer, her husband Matthew and their children Julia and Brendan; and a large extended family.

Viewing will be held today (Thursday, July 19) from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. and 7 p.m.-9 p.m. at Ely Funeral Home, 3316 Hwy. 33, Neptune. A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 20, at 9 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Neptune, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Port Reading, with interment to follow in St. Gertrude's Cemetery in Colonia.
