Message:   Unfortunately, the vast majority of volunteers at the club are parents themselves, and as such their time and efforts are naturally taken up with their own age groups.

I would really like to see the under 16's doing well and recruiting new players, but the responsibility must, to a large extent lie with the under 16 parents, coaches and the players themselves.

If games were publicised more within the club then more spectators would be attracted, and more publicity within local schools would help to attract new players.

I do not believe it is favouritism at all, but that each section is naturally concentrating on its own setup. If the minis are an at away fixture, they cannot also be at home supporting the youth teams at home, and vice versa. The two most successful mini sides in terms of recruitment and results are the under 10s and under 12s; this is no accident, but is the result of a lot of hard work by the coaches and other volunteers.

The under 13s have been turned around more recently, again by the hard work of volunteers, coaches etc.

It is great that we have an under 16s team, but I fail to see what else the volunteers of the club can do to help, as they are generally snowed under with their own responsibilities of;

phoning everyone in their age group every week, planning coaching sessions, collecting subs, organising the tea rota, writing match reports, issuing directions to away matches, making tea and bacon rolls, organising tours, designing and building websites, collecting and banking tea money, cleaning kit, taking photos, collecting cones, refereeing, working behind the bar, running the line, buying the refreshments, administering first aid, sending reports to the local papers, going to committee meetings, going on coaching courses, organising presentation nights, buying the trophies etc. etc. I could go on...

If any age group would like to see reports or photos either on the website or in the local paper, please send them to webmaster@stanfordrugby.co.uk. If any team would like to publicise a match or event, please send it to the same email address or put a poster on the notice board.

So yes, I would like to see us hold on to all age groups, and if there is anything anyone can do to help then shout, but a bit of self-help is also needed.
