Not enough players, not enough shirts, not enough support!! But if ever you need to look for the heart of lions, and the courage of an army, then look no further than the eight who turned up to represent Stanford Rugby Club under 16's at Millwall on Sunday. They had to borrow players, use there own undershirts so that the Lads we borrowed were able to wear our tops and be recognised.
They got beat, but that is not what Sunday was all about. It was about a game where the opposing side took time to shake the hands of the few who had turned up to represent their club and played with such passion from the start of the game right through to the final whistle. I was very proud of my son that day, and so should the other parents (who sadly were not there to see them play!) It's also a shame that a few other members of Stanford Rugby Club could not have been there to see how proud and determined these loyal players were to represent Stanford, and to give everything for their club.
It's a shame that this age group has struggled to put out a team. If you think of the players who have left Stanford RFC for other clubs, Be it Thurrock, Barking, Basildon, Westcliff etc. Perhaps we need to take note that the future of the youth section is the future of the club. |
