John Rowe 1782/1853

I came upon a record from Dorchester Goal 1782-1853 one John Rowe Blacksmith of Beer aged 55yrs was charged with smuggling and his fine was £100/1yr I don't know if he had a choice or whether he had to do both!!
I was sent this information on John ROWE and would like to follow up on it as it could be one of two John ROWE'S. the first born Whitchurch Canonicorum Dorset c1770 who went to live in Beer Devon or his son John Rowe born Devon 1799. Is their any way I can follow it up.
