Majestic Secret Excerpt

Majestic’s Secret

Introduction
It was a very easy decision to make at the time considering her choices seemed to be limited. What had it required anyway…a simple switch of a name band?
In all of the confusion that was easy enough to do.
A young and timid, Nurse Judith Swanson was emboldened somehow, as she stealthily entered that almost barren nursery during the two a.m. feeding.
It was the only time there would be no one around for at least ten minutes, while the two nurses, who staffed the nursery, took the babies out to their mothers to be fed.
Judith knew that every one thought she had gone home for the night. She had made outspoken ‘good-byes’ to everyone before she left; making sure everyone saw her leave.
In the failings of the old wives tales about full moons and babies, the capacity of the nursery to hold up to at least fifty newborns, had been sorely undermined, by the birth of a mere seven boys and five girls within the last twenty-four hours.
It was usually a welcome change for the nurses on that floor, though they hated to admit it. However, for Judith Swanson, she could only wish for a hundred or more, to cover over the space she left after carrying out her crime of true passion.
Torn with mixed feelings, wild eyed and desperate, she covered the newborn completely with a blanket and without making a sound, slipped off of that floor and down the back stairs to her car, that waited in the basement garage.
Although it was weeks since the death of her little Steven, Judith now felt the tingle in her breasts that filled with milk for this whimpering, hungry child, squirming under the blanket.
The baby, whose name band she had switched, was born very ill and had no hope of survival, so without a doubt she knew she was home free.
Even Nurse Perry’s over preoccupation with paperwork had not gotten in her way this time. In fact, she almost had to hand it to the old anal-retentive battle-axe. If it had not been for her and her strange time consuming obsession with paperwork, she may not have gone over the edge this way. She may have been content to let events just happen according to chance. She may have thought again before acting out the most emotional thing she had ever done in her life.
She pulled off the blanket that covered the baby lying on the floor of the passenger seat of her car. There, in his eyes, she saw the eyes of his real mother. She thought of all of the fear and pain she suffered through before she died... so very young.
She would never forget those eyes.
Now, and every time from now on, she would know she had done the right thing—If only she could have done more.

Re: Majestic Secret Excerpt

This Area is for all books in the series. The discussion can start here!

Which was your favorite book in the series and why?

Majestic Secret

A Style of His Own

Rested Memories

Temporary Rain

Mine was Rested Memories, because I enjoyed the character Rickki and developing a Black British Character. I felt it expanded the type casting giving to many black characters and allowed for the reader to get outside the standard reading box.

The story itself drew out the flaws in a character I really liked as well as introduced a little drama with the Tearsa/Barbara storyline, which at the time was still new to me... murder and mayhem and all that.
